The Tuscarawas County Public Library System is offering free genealogy and family history programs this fall at the Main Library and Operations Center and at local cemeteries.
“I have a personal interest in family history, but it is also fun and inspiring to see people find their own family history,” said Gina Merrill, a public service associate who has provided genealogy services at the library for more than 25 years.
Merrill will lead Genealogy Websites for Beginners Monday, Sept. 15, at 6 p.m. The class will introduce attendees to basic websites that can help start a family history search.
In addition, one-on-one help sessions with a genealogy specialist are available in 90-minute blocks between 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on select dates: Sept. 17, Oct. 1 and 15, Nov. 5 and Dec. 3.
The library will also host Find a Grave: Headstone Hunter sessions Saturday mornings at area cemeteries. Participants will help search for requested headstones and contribute missing memorial information to FindAGrave.com. Sessions include:
— Sept. 13, 10 a.m., Calvary Cemetery, Delaware Drive SE, New Philadelphia.
— Oct. 4, 10 a.m., Stone Creek Cemetery, Cemetery Hill Road, Stone Creek.
— Nov. 9, 10 a.m., Sharon Moravian Cemetery, 4776 Moravian Church Road SE, New Philadelphia.
To register, visit tusclibrary.org or call 330-364-4474. The Main Library and Operations Center is at 121 Fair Ave. NW, New Philadelphia.
