Tuscarawas County to celebrate Adoption Day Nov. 21 with public ceremony

Event at Probate Court to honor foster care adoptions and raise awareness of children in need of permanent homes

Currently, 103 children are in foster care in Tuscarawas County, supported by 32 family foster homes licensed through the agency.

The Tuscarawas County Probate Court, in partnership with Tuscarawas County Job and Family Services, will host a celebration on Friday, Nov. 21, to honor children and families who have come together through foster care adoption.

Each November, communities across the nation recognize National Adoption Day to raise awareness about the need for safe, loving and permanent homes for the more than 100,000 children in foster care waiting to be adopted in the United States.

In 2024, 28 of the 52 adoptions filed in the Tuscarawas County Probate Court were for children involved in the foster care system through Tuscarawas County Job and Family Services. As of August 2025, nine adoptions have been finalized. Currently, 103 children are in foster care in Tuscarawas County, supported by 32 family foster homes licensed through the agency.

Tuscarawas County Adoption Day will begin at 9 a.m. in Courtroom 201 of the Tuscarawas County Probate Court, 101 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia. Probate Court Judge Adam W. Wilgus will preside over an adoption that will be open to the public, followed by light refreshments.
