Strasburg school board approves staffing changes, reschedules D.C. trip and recognizes students
Board hires new tutor and substitute teacher, accepts donation for STEM program, and announces Veterans Day celebration details.

The board accepted the resignation of Tana Martin, food service coordinator, effective Jan. 1, 2026. Superintendent Vince Lindsey said he hopes Martin will reconsider and remain in the position.
Maurtice Hython was hired as an academic tutor effective Oct. 15 and will be paid through Title II funds. Madison Wade was hired as a pre-service substitute teacher for the school year effective Oct. 14.
Lindsey also reported the district is in need of substitute bus drivers. Those interested may call the school at 330-878-5571, ext. 4.
In other action, the board approved unpaid leave for Danielle Thornberry Feb. 12-13, 2026. Jim Bates was approved as a volunteer assistant girls basketball coach for the 2025-26 school year. Staff members Kendra Wolgamott, David Pumphrey, chairperson, Cory Nussbaum and Frank Kruger were approved to serve on the Local Professional Development Committee.
The eighth-grade trip to Washington, D.C., was moved from Oct. 22-24, 2025, to March 25-27, 2026. The board also approved an overnight stay for the Speech and Debate Team Nov. 14 in Toledo.
A 65-passenger school bus will be purchased from Hill International at a cost of $152,813. The district participated in the Stark County Consortium bus purchase plan. The district’s policy and plan for the identification and services of children who are gifted was also approved.
The board accepted a $250 donation from the Moomaw Foundation toward Project Lead the Way.
Tigers of the Month were recognized: Sugeily Ajanel Huinac at the high school, Aleric Newton at the middle school and Michael Numbers at the elementary level. Students received plaques sponsored by the Lions Club and the district.
The board congratulated Gage Bonifant for participating in the state golf tournament, where he finished 23rd out of 72 golfers. A shout-out was also given to school librarian Kim Gessner for a successful book fair.
The Parent Teacher Group will hold a fall festival Oct. 31 in the elementary school.
The annual Veterans Day Celebration will be held Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 9:30 a.m. in the elementary gym. Breakfast will be served followed by a program from 10:30 to 11 a.m. The event is free and attendees may bring a guest. Strasburg Elementary students will present the program, coordinated by teacher Jessica Barkley, who can be contacted at 330-878-6503 or jessica.barkely@strasburgtigers.org.
The next board meeting will be held Nov. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the administration building at 140 N. Bodmer Ave.
