Selfless Elf 5K returns Dec. 20 with new team option
Selfless Elf serves as the finale to the Foodbank’s annual Holiday Campaign
The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank will host its 13th annual Selfless Elf 5K run and walk Dec. 20, a holiday tradition that begins and ends at the Foodbank’s main campus in Akron.
This year’s event introduces a new feature: participants may register as a team, adding a competitive and festive option for families, friends and coworkers. Runners and walkers are encouraged to wear holiday-themed costumes and gear. Each registrant will receive the event’s signature bright elf socks and a commemorative race shirt.
An awards ceremony will follow the race, honoring the top overall male and female runners and competitive walkers, the Most Dashing participant for best costume, the Top VIP Elf for top fundraiser, and the fastest team.
“In the wake of the recent government shutdown and delayed SNAP food benefits, our community has shown extraordinary compassion,” said Dan Flowers, president and CEO of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank. “Events like Selfless Elf remind us that when we come together, we can continue to meet the rising need and ensure our neighbors have the food and nourishment they deserve.”
The family-friendly event will feature upbeat music inside the warehouse from DJ Nick Duvé, a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, and holiday photo opportunities.
Selfless Elf serves as the finale to the Foodbank’s annual Holiday Campaign and helps support local hunger relief efforts. For safety reasons, dogs are not permitted at the event.
For more information or to register, visit SelflessElf.com. Onsite registration opens at 6:30 a.m. on race day, and the race begins at 8 a.m.
