At the March 3 meeting of Port Washington Village Council, Tom Gardner said he had met recently with American Drilling Company, the firm that will be handle the fire well project at Belden Park.

Gardner informed council that a $25,000 donation had been received from the Kimble Foundation to be used for the project. Council had previously heard the total cost would be $50,000, so the donation came as welcome news since the project will now cost the village only $25,000.

Gardner also reported good news regarding the downed spouting at the Historical Society Building. At the last council meeting a quote had been presented from Yoder Roofing for $1,450. Since then, Gardner stated the Historical Society group will absorb half the cost of the project, leaving about $725 for the village to pay.

Finishing his mayor’s report, Gardner said the new flashing lights have been installed at the railroad crossing on South St. Clair Street and new gate will follow soon.

Reports to council

Schilling Electric should be wrapping up the traffic light/generator project soon, according to DJ Meek, the mayor’s assistant. Meek also reported for zoning that one zoning permit has been issued to an Arch Street resident wanting to build a shed.

Street Supervisor Tim Bryant was excused from the meeting. In his absence Garner said he and Bryant had reviewed the alleys that are not blacktopped and are in need of gravel. Council gave approval for Bryant to purchase whatever is needed for the alleys.

Council President Joe Bourne reported the fire department received two auto accident calls in the past two weeks.
