Patricia Miller to present at Dover Public Library Oct. 28
Local counselor and author will share her children’s emotion-skills book and demonstrate 5-minute DBT practices; book signing planned and she returns Nov. 15 for story time
Local author Patricia Miller will appear at the Dover Public Library Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. to present her latest book, "It’s Okay to Have Feelings, A Peyton Place Adventure."
Miller is a licensed clinical counselor supervisor and social worker with 35 years of experience. Her picture book series is designed as a therapeutic tool to help children build emotion regulation skills that develop progressively. The strategies highlighted in her books have been supported by research showing improvements in symptom reduction, executive functions and social emotional wellness.
During her presentation, Miller will explain the foundation of the series and demonstrate how families can practice certain Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills for just five minutes a day with children. She said the exercises can help form healthy brain pathways and strengthen a child’s ability to cope with daily stress. Copies of her books will be available for purchase and signing.
Miller will return to the library Saturday, Nov. 15 at 11 a.m. for a children’s story time, where she will read from "It’s Okay to Have Feelings, A Peyton Place Adventure." That event will include snacks, coloring pages and a chance to win a Lego Castle set.
For information or to register for the Oct. 28 event, call 330-343-6123 or visit www.doverlibrary.org.
