Were you one of those kids in the 1960s and 1970s who couldn’t wait to get home from school to watch “Dark Shadows,” the gothic and campy horror soap opera that followed the lives of vampire Barnabas Collins and the rest of the Collins family of werewolves, witches and zombies? If so, you will want to attend “A Night of Dark Shadows” Saturday, Oct. 25, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Joseph Bonamico Memorial Pavilion on the grounds of the Trumpet in the Land Amphitheatre.
Although “Dark Shadows” was created for an adult audience, its fan base was largely made up of young people, and it became a cult classic.
A recent television review by Karl Stern noted, “Make no mistake, ‘Dark Shadows’ is still extremely overacted, the story moves exceedingly slow, people often fumble through their lines, and several of the characters are as shallow as a murderer’s grave, but there is something oddly hypnotic about it.”
Fans have come to appreciate many of the show’s imperfections as part of its charm, including visible boom microphones and cameras in shots, along with simple and recycled special effects.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the viewing beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 per person and can be purchased in advance at the Tuscarawas County Welcome Center or at the door. Folding chairs will be available, but patrons are welcome to bring their own chairs and blankets. The concession stand will be open with hot chocolate, coffee, soda, water and snacks available for purchase.
For more information, call the Trumpet in the Land office at 330-364-5111 or the box office at 330-339-1132 on the night of the showing.
