KSU Tuscarawas announces full slate of summer programs

The lineup includes Children/Teen Days, Adult Days and Family Days, along with special events such as a community picnic and an end-of-summer celebration

Kent State University at Tuscarawas Library/Makerspace will offer a wide range of free summer programs for all ages, with events running from June 1 through July 29.

Organizers said the lineup includes Children/Teen Days, Adult Days and Family Days, along with special events such as a community picnic and an end-of-summer celebration. Many faculty and staff members are volunteering to lead the programs.

Children and teen programs will generally run from 10 a.m. to noon for ages 5-16 unless otherwise noted, with some sessions designated for specific age groups. The schedule begins June 1 with “The Case of the Missing Squirrel.”

Other children and teen sessions include Exploring Nursing June 8 for ages 8-12, Day With a Vet June 15 for ages 6-16, Independence Day Fun June 17 for ages 6-16 and Robotics June 22 for ages 6-16.

A basketball fundamentals session for ages 7-9 will be held June 29 from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by a basketball skills camp for ages 10-12 from 1-3 p.m. that same day. A basketball camp for ages 13 and up is scheduled for June 30 from 10 a.m. to noon.

July programs include Fun With Physics: Eggstravagant Landers, an egg drop competition, July 1; Intro to Bocce Ball July 6 for ages 10-16; Career Exploration July 13 for ages 6-14; Create a Silly Book July 14 for ages 5-8; and Create a Book Camp July 15 for ages 9-16, with lunch provided.

Additional all-ages events include Pizza Time July 20, Dragons & Vikings storytelling July 27, with costumes encouraged and the End of Summer Fun Party July 29.

Family Days events, open to all ages, will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and include a Paint Party June 11, an Independence Picnic July 2, Dried Flower Art July 23 and the End of Summer Fun Party July 29.

Adult Days programs for ages 17 and older will take place from 1-3 p.m. and include Container Gardening Fun June 1, Herbs: Garden to Table June 15, Robotics June 24, Introduction to Bocce Ball July 6, Introduction to Stained Glass July 8 and Nail Polish Dyed Mugs & Coasters July 20.

A special community picnic celebrating the 250th Independence Day anniversary will be held July 2 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event will include food, a movie, music, dancing and crafts, and is open to the public.

Organizers said registration is required as space is limited, and additional classes or dates may be added as sessions fill.
