Letter to the Editor
Gratitude for second chances and belief
Writer credits Tuscarawas County organization with providing opportunity, trust and hope that changed her life
There are no words that can fully express the depth of my gratitude for the opportunities and belief the Tuscarawas County Friends of the Homeless and Calvin White extended to me when few others would.
When my past challenges closed doors to volunteer and internship placements required for my education, you opened yours without hesitation. You saw potential where others saw barriers, and that faith changed the course of my life.
Thank you for allowing me to volunteer when no one else would, for trusting me to serve on the Board of Directors when I doubted my own capability, and for giving me the chance to complete my internship when every other door had closed.
Each of these opportunities was more than a requirement fulfilled, they were acts of trust and compassion that helped me rebuild my confidence and my future. Because of your belief in me, I was able to graduate, earn my master’s degree in social work, and dedicate my life to serving our community.
The impact of your kindness continues to ripple outward through the work I do and the people I now have the privilege to help.
Friends of the Homeless is more than a shelter, it is a place of hope, opportunity and second chances. You not only provide essential services to those who are unhoused, but you also restore dignity and belief in those who have been told they are not enough.
I am living proof of the power of that mission."
With heartfelt appreciation,
Amanda Fontana,
