Volleyball
It took another unbeaten team to knock the Tornadoes from the ranks of them. On Aug. 28, Dover fell in five sets to Wooster in a key early-season Ohio Cardinal Conference match-up that could not have been more even. Dover won the first and fourth sets before falling 16-14 in the third for a final count of 22-25, 25-22, 25-20, 20-25, 16-14.
The Tornadoes got a balanced attack at the net, with senior Caroline Hanner leading with 19 kills. Junior Alli Hupp added 19 and senior Hailey Kuecher tacked on 14 more. Dover had 61 kills to 56 for the Generals. Senior Quincey Werntz set her teammates up to the tune of 55 assists.
Werntz and Jenna Molk both had four block assists. On the back end of the defense, senior Chera Schmidt led with 13, two more than Hanner. Senior Lainie Keith led with 19 service receptions. Junior Meghan Ravine added 15 and Hanner had 14.
The teams will go at it again Sept. 25 in Dover.
Soccer
Dover’s teams came up empty, both in terms of wins and goals on trips to Mansfield to face Madison Compehensive last week. Dover’s boys team dropped to 2-2 overall after losing an Ohio Cardinal Conference match 3-0 at home against Mansfield Madison Comprehensive Aug. 26. That left the Tornadoes at 0-2 in the OCC. They were set to face rival New Philadelphia, also at home, Sept. 2. The girls squad fell 2-0 two days later to move to 3-2 overall, 0-2 in the conference. The Tornado girls were to host New Philadelphia Sept. 4 looking for their first league goal.
