Age of Steam to screen ‘Emperor of the North’ in America 250 event
After the film, attendees will have an opportunity to view No. 19 on display outside the roundhouse
The Age of Steam Roundhouse Museum, 213 Smokey Lane Road SW, Sugarcreek, will host a special America 250-Ohio event, Ohio Goes to the Movies, April 10 featuring a screening of the 1973 adventure-drama “Emperor of the North,” a film that prominently features the museum’s No. 19 locomotive.
The museum will open at 6:30 p.m. for evening guests. At 7 p.m., No. 19 will depart from the Visitor Center Depot for a short, exclusive ride to the roundhouse.
At 8:30 p.m., guests will gather inside the roundhouse for the screening. Popcorn and drinks will be available for purchase. After the film, attendees will have an opportunity to view No. 19 on display outside the roundhouse.
Set during the Great Depression, “Emperor of the North” stars Lee Marvin, Ernest Borgnine and Keith Carradine in a story of defiance and survival along the railroads. The film follows A-No.-1 (Marvin), a legendary hobo determined to outsmart Shack (Borgnine), a railroad conductor. Young drifter Cigaret (Carradine) joins the challenge in a battle of wits aboard a freight train.
Admission is free, but advance registration is required for entry into the roundhouse. Space is limited. Register online at ageofsteamroundhouse.org/blog/ohio-goes-to-the-movies-emperor-of-the-north/.
