Rankin Church traces roots to Revolutionary War veteran
It is still an active church and is part of the Asbury Greater Parish
Thomas Rankin was a farmer. He was influential, along with Thomas Dickerson, founder of Dickerson Church and a Revolutionary War veteran, in starting Rankin Methodist Church. It is still an active church and is part of the Asbury Greater Parish.
Before a church was erected, members met in Rankin’s cabin. The cemetery where he is buried was part of his property.
Rankin Church is located at 77195 Rankin Road, Cadiz, just off Route 22, just past state Route 519.
Rankin served in the Revolutionary War, and under Colonel David Williamson against the Moravian Indians and under Colonel William Crawford in the Sandusky Expedition.
