Pathways for Inclusion honors Dirk Harkins
The Community CHIME Award was created to honor those who live out that mission beyond the organization’s walls
Pathways for Inclusion presented Dirk Harkins with the first Community CHIME Award for Harrison County in recognition of his advocacy, community support and commitment to inclusion.
At Pathways for Inclusion, the mission is rooted in creating access, belonging and opportunity for individuals and families of all abilities. Co-founder and board member Amanda DeLuca said the organization believes inclusion is not just a service — it is a shared responsibility strengthened through community.
The Community CHIME Award was created to honor those who live out that mission beyond the organization’s walls — individuals and organizations whose actions reflect compassion, advocacy and a deep commitment to inclusion.
Like a chime, their impact may not always be loud or visible, but it is meaningful and far-reaching. Through support, partnership and leadership, recipients help create pathways where individuals feel seen, valued and supported.
DeLuca said one of the greatest honors of the Community CHIME Award is that it allows the organization to pause and recognize people who quietly and consistently make communities stronger, kinder and more connected.
Harkins, she said, does exactly that.
DeLuca said Harkins creates space — real space — for the stories of others. In a world that often rushes past people or speaks over them, she said, Harkins listens and amplifies. He builds platforms where voices are not only welcomed, but celebrated.
She said Harkins has a way of highlighting what is extraordinary about people, especially when they may not see it in themselves. Through his work and advocacy, he has uplifted veterans, supported the disability community and championed individuals from all walks of life.
DeLuca said Harkins does this not for recognition, but because he believes deeply in the dignity, worth and potential of every person.
“What makes Dirk’s impact so meaningful is that it is rooted in authenticity,” DeLuca said. “His support is genuine. His advocacy is intentional. And his belief in people is unwavering.”
She said Harkins reminds others that community is built through presence, empathy and the willingness to make room for others to be seen and heard.
“The CHIME Award stands for connection, inclusion and meaningful engagement — and Dirk embodies all of those values,” DeLuca said. “His work echoes far beyond individual moments; it creates ripples that strengthen our entire community.”
