Harrison Central youth league opens basketball playoffs

The league has turned the corner on the season and is now battling through the playoffs

The Harrison Central Youth Basketball League has turned the corner on the season and is now battling through the league playoffs.

On Tuesday, March 10, the third- and fourth-grade Vikings and Cavs opened the tournament at 5 p.m. in Scio. The fifth- and sixth-grade Warriors and Hornets followed at 6 p.m. The Cavs defeated the Vikings 23-12, and the Hornets defeated the Warriors 21-20 in a close contest.

On Wednesday, March 11, the Tar Heels of the third- and fourth-grade division faced the Cavs, while the Huskies took on the Knights. The Tar Heels beat the Cavs 20-14. In the Huskies-Knights game, the Knights won 19-12.

On Thursday, March 12, the Spartans were in Scio to face the Hornets, and the Vikings were scheduled to face the Bulls. The Bulls won a high-scoring game over the Vikings 26-18, while the Spartans scored 35 points and beat the Hornets 35-26.

Still fighting for a spot in the finals on Saturday, March 14, eight teams were on hand to complete the day’s playoff picture. At 9 a.m., a third- and fourth-grade losers bracket game featured the Huskies and Vikings. The 10 a.m. game was a semifinal in the same division featuring the Tar Heels and Knights.

In the third- and fourth-grade losers bracket, the Huskies beat the Vikings 23-10. In the semifinal, the Knights defeated the Tar Heels 14-11.

At 11 a.m., another losers bracket game featured the fifth- and sixth-grade Vikings and Warriors. The noon game was a semifinal. In the 11 a.m. game, the Vikings outscored the Warriors 23-12. In the second afternoon contest, the Spartans defeated the Bulls 28-25 in a nail-biter.

League playoff games resume March 17, 18 and 21.
