Harrison Central hosts East District cheer competition

Game day, traditional division and junior high squads kept the crowd pumped with fan cheers and floor routines

Who doesn’t enjoy a room full of energy? The Harrison Central cheerleaders experienced just that Dec. 7 as the Huskies hosted the 2025 OHSCCA East District Competition, filling the gym with cheerleaders, mascots, families and fans.

Teams from Toronto, Minerva, Edison, Union Local, Bellaire, Tusky Valley, Indian Valley, St. Clairsville, Harding, Wellsville, Marietta, Strasburg, River, Monroe Central, John Glenn, Garaway, Barnesville, Steubenville and host Harrison Central took the floor throughout the day to showcase their skills and spirit.

Harrison Central earned second place in the Division III non-tumble high school division and fourth place in the non-tumble junior high division.

Other winners included Minerva in Division II/IV non-tumble; Monroe Central in Division V non-tumble; Garaway in building; Barnesville in Division V traditional; Indian Valley in Division IV traditional; Minerva in Division III traditional; John Glenn in gameday build; Barnesville in Division V gameday; and Minerva in Division IV/III gameday. Strasburg Middle School earned first place in its division.

Harrison Central seniors Alexa DeWees and Maddilyn Fellows received All-District awards.

“The All-District Cheerleader award is given to athletes who demonstrate exceptional leadership skills and performance within their district,” Fellows said. She thanked her coaches and parents and added, “Throughout the summer, with constant positive support from my teammates, I have worked diligently to become a better athlete for me and my team. I am grateful to accept this award and hope my teammates and I earn many more as the season continues.”

Coach Karli Ray expressed appreciation to the Ohio High School Cheerleading Coaches Association for the opportunity to host. “We hope everyone had a great day and enjoyed their time in our beautiful facility,” Ray said. “Thank you to our school district and administration for their support in making this happen. We hope to see everyone back for the HC Invitational in January.”

Harrison Central will host its Invitational Competition Jan. 10, 2026.
