Roscoe Village to host history program for children
Weekly Monday programs for children begin June 1 in Coshocton, with hands-on activities and a July 13 ride on the Monticello III
Roscoe Village, in collaboration with the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum, Clary Gardens and Pomerene Center for the Arts, will follow the Coshocton Public Library’s Summer Reading Program theme, "Unearth a Story."
This year the village invites families to join them each Monday morning for Unearth the Stories of the Canal. The programs will be held June 1 through July 13, excluding July 6, and will begin at 10 a.m., lasting approximately one hour.
Families who register to attend the first week will learn all about wheat’s importance as Ohio’s first cash crop. See how the construction of the canal allowed Ohio to become America’s first “breadbasket.”
Each week will start with a new discussion that will dig into canal era life and allow attendees to unearth a new piece of history and then finish with a craft or activity. Children will touch on techniques used by historians and archaeologists to learn about people of the past, embroidery and even do their own excavations. The final event will be July 13 and will be a ride on the horse-drawn canal boat, Monticello III.
Families should make sure to register online. The fee is $1 per child age 5 and up. This program is recommended for children age 5-12. All registration must be completed at www.roscoevillage.com.
