Files Harry F. McLaughlin, Carrollton postmaster since July 1951, announced his retirement effective Oct. 31 under the statutory age limit requirement. Thomas A. Goetz, 35, was named the new principal at Augusta School, having served as principal at Midvale and Roswell schools the past year. Officers of the Fighting McCooks Gun Club elected for 1965 included Dennis Brenneman, treasurer; Charles A. Goddard, executive officer; Merle Wright, retired vice president; Roy Baughman, assistant executive officer; Ed Nign, secretary; Thomas Baughman, vice president; and Ray Carson, president.

Twenty new teachers joined the faculty of the Carrollton Exempted Village School District. Leading the cheers at Carrollton’s home and away football games were Jackie Salisbury, Tammy Williamson, Nancy Jenkins, Debbie Manfull and Lori Shick. The Carrollton Warrior marching band’s majorette corps included Lori McLaughlin, Diane Bitgood, Darleen Crabbs, Jane Yoder and Kathy Guess, head majorette. Members of Carrollton High School’s cross-country team, coached by Craig Winters and assisted by Dan Wells, included Greg Roof, Kevin Spears, Scott Wade, Bret Harsh, Jim Jarosz, Jeff McClelland, Mark Knisely, Roger Lanka, Gary Gaines, Jerry Kirkpatrick, Frank Jarosz, Randy Borland, Keith Brady, Ralph Brady, Jeff Gween, Dave Stewart, Mike Burns and Glenn McConnell.

Jeff Crowl was appointed the new member of Malvern Village Council. Mark Lumley’s yearling Holstein heifer took first-place honors in the summer yearling heifer junior Holstein show at the Ohio State Fair. The Carrollton Warriors kicked off their 1985 football season with a 16-14 win over Tuslaw.

Kevin and Wendy Davis were named Carroll County Farm Bureau’s Young Farm Couple of the Year. Dr. Kenneth Lloyd closed his veterinary practice in Leesville. Warrior Marc Ohler paced Carrollton in two of the three golf matches.

The political legacy of the Yeager family continued when Carroll County’s new treasurer, Jeff Yeager, took office, succeeding his uncle, John Yeager, who completed his fifth term, having been elected in 1984. Carroll County youth who received top awards at the 2005 Ohio State Fair included Ryan Buck, Jeff Stevens, Tyler Moore, Joseph Sabella and Grace Sabella. Matt Bryan made his debut as the Warrior starting quarterback in grand style at Community Field when he led Carrollton to a 21-0 shutout victory over Buckeye Local.

Shelly Truman began a new business venture when she opened The Old Shoppe on Steubenville Road, southeast of Carrollton. Kristy Sampson, a longtime Southern Local School teacher, was settling in on her new role as the elementary school principal. Maddie Dunlap led the Lady Warriors at the Pickerington CC Classic with a first-place finish out of 277 runners, and a time of 19:39, an early season-best record for Dunlap.
