John Eisenhut won the five-way race for the Republican nomination for Carroll County commissioner by 15 unofficial votes at the May primary election to edge out former commissioner Kenneth Widder.
The Carrollton High School band, under the direction of Arthur Thomas, came back from the state contest at Eastmoor High School in Columbus with superior ratings for the 10th straight year.
The Carrollton Warriors defeated Steubenville Big Red 5-0 in a baseball game at Steubenville where Warrior Bill Fawcett was the winning pitcher, fanning 11 and walking one.

The building at 31-33 E. Main St., known as the Linder building and believed to have been built in the late 1800s, was razed.
A Carrollton-area brother-sister team, John and Sharon Mangun, were honored with awards at the Ohio Future Farmers of America state convention held in Columbus.
Carrollton High School’s girls and boys track teams blazed to wins over Beaver Local and Jefferson Union, respectively.

Party races for the May 6 primary election in Carroll County included one for the Democratic nomination for county commissioner where incumbent Russell Barrett was being challenged by Richard N. Huff. The four Republican county commissioner candidates included Thomas L. Cummings, Robert D. Herron, Ralph Owen Maple and Walter J. Wingerter.
Jeannett Callahan, an Art 1 student at Carrollton High School, was named a national winner at the annual AAA poster contest. Brad Prince and Dave Cook Jr., both CHS art students, were named state finalists.
Beth Johnson picked up another mound victory when the Carrollton girls softball team edged St. Thomas 7-6 in extra innings.

“Wonderful Night” was the theme of Carrollton High School’s 1996 junior-senior prom when Travis Ledford and Kayce Roof, both seniors, reigned as prom king and queen.
Heritage Plastics Inc., owned by Charles McCort, received an award for outstanding achievement in the Carroll County community during the Eastern Ohio Development Alliance annual meeting in Zanesville.
Dave Purdy was pictured hitting the deck and sliding across home plate as one of 20 Warrior runs posted in their 20-15 win over Marlington.

Sean Smith, a well-known Carrollton attorney and lifelong resident of Carrollton, received the President’s Award from Linda Shotwell at the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce’s 30th annual banquet held at Atwood Resort.
Josh Cerny and Jenn Burns reigned as king and queen of the Malvern High School junior-senior prom.
The Carrollton Lady Warriors track team was pictured while running and hosting the United Golden Eagles on the new all-weather track at Carrollton.

“A Night Around the World” was the theme of Carrollton High School’s 2016 junior-senior prom when Eliza Days and Cody Casto were crowned queen and king.
Tom Indorf of Carrollton was headed to Memphis, Tennessee, with his jars of homemade apple and regular barbecue sauce to compete in the May Barbecue World Championship Contest.
Dakota Jenrett set a new Carrollton High School track record with a jump of 21 feet, 6 inches at the Larry Cogan Invitational Carrollton meet.
