TuscParks partners with Canal Tavern of Zoar for 5K trail run-walk

The electronically chip-timed race begins at 1 p.m. at Fort Laurens Museum and follows the historic towpath to the Canal Lands Park trailhead.

TuscParks and the Canal Tavern of Zoar are teaming up for the 5K Trail Run-Walk Oct. 19,  offering a scenic course, community fun and an Oktoberfest-style celebration at the finish line.

The electronically chip-timed race begins at 1 p.m. at Fort Laurens Museum and follows the historic towpath to the Canal Lands Park trailhead. Proceeds will support upkeep of the Towpath Trail in Tuscarawas County, with this year’s focus on repairing decking on the Zoar Iron Bridge and filling sections of the trail in need of attention.

Runners and walkers who register by Sept. 19 are guaranteed a T-shirt. Registration is open until 12:30 p.m. on race day, with online sign-up at runsignup.com/CL5K or by mailing forms to TuscParks, 4820 Old Rt. 39 NW, Dover, OH 44622, by Oct. 12. Race day registration will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. under the tent between the Canal Lands Park trailhead and the Canal Tavern of Zoar.

A free shuttle will transport participants to the starting line at 12:15 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. Awards and door prizes will be presented afterward at the Canal Tavern of Zoar, where participants can enjoy free brats, beer for those 21 and older, and live music on the patio.

Parking and registration are at the Canal Lands Park trailhead, 8645 Dover-Zoar Road NE, Dover. For details, call the TuscParks office at 330-365-1221 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday or visit the TuscParks Facebook page.
