The Tuscarawas County Health Department recently released its 2025 annual report, highlighting the department’s public health activities to prevent the spread of disease, promote healthy behaviors and protect the county’s environment.

Notable statistics from the report include 180 car seats or booster seats provided for local families, 1,002 food-safety inspections completed, 2,190 medical appointments conducted, 5,617 birth and death certificates issued, 56 community education presentations, 9 tons of scrap tires collected and $2,927,314 in grant funding received.

The department investigated 1,141 communicable diseases in 2025. COVID-19 and Chlamydia were the top reported diseases for all Tuscarawas County residents.

In addition to details about each health department service bureau, the annual report lists the top five causes of death and includes photos and statistics about department services and activities. The report also provides a summary of construction and renovation changes made to the building and grounds.

“In 2025, the department made significant strides forward despite extraordinary changes such as operating while our building was under construction for most of the year,” said Katie Seward, MPH, MBA, Tuscarawas County health commissioner. “Our staff strengthened environmental health protections and collaborated with schools, healthcare providers, local organizations and businesses to improve public health and safety for county residents.”

Seward added, “We are thankful to the community for their patience and understanding during our extensive construction project, and we look forward to hosting a community open house from 4-6 p.m. on May 19 to showcase our renovated building to everyone.”
