It's resurrection day; we've been forgiven

Local columnist reflects on Christ’s resurrection and the promise of forgiveness

Inside the tomb, victory was arising.

Resurrection spoke, and it was surprising.

Death was defeated, and new life was given,

From one savior, the Messiah who was now risen.

A hope renewed and now steadfast,

From Jesus the Son with eternal last.

No more defeat with sin’s sting.

Hallelujahs across the land did ring.

Three days had passed since that day at the cross,

By the blood Jesus shed to cover sin’s debt of dross.

The suffering bore upon that tree

Was now an eternal history.

The cross forever upon that hill

Made way through darkness with a lighted quill.

God’s finished work spoke loud and clear,

Forgiven. Redeemed. The words to hear.

The dark that had spread across the land

Was now covered by a blood so grand.

Holy! Holy! Exclaimed now throughout,

as heaven’s victorious shout.

The Son of God who came to save

Became the lamb whose life he gave.

To take away the sin of all,

By his death and finished call.

A path was made to fix sin’s breach,

Only by Jesus, our souls to reach.

Through Jesus only is the way,

Because of his death on the cross that day.

The Son of God and Son of man

Has the credentials for salvation’s plan.

No other could ever save a soul.

Only Jesus can make one whole.

The cross is where forgiveness is.

You must go there to become his.

Repentance will not cost you at all.

It was paid in full by a beckoning call.

“Father, forgive them.” These words drew nigh,

Upon the Father’s ears on high.

That day we were reconciled,

Back to God, crimson styled.

The end, so thought we would be, by the enemy who loomed,

Was taken out of the way, along with sin and its defeat, now doomed.

Placed in a tomb, Jesus’ body did lay,

But the stone placed in front was rolled away.

Oh, glorious day. Oh, glorious morn.

Risen from the grave alive evermore.

Jesus the Christ, the king who reigns,

Forever our savior, the only priest who ordains.

Jesus forgives with his royal authority over all.

His death, burial and resurrection sealed redemption’s call.

Jesus is alive. He is risen.

It’s resurrection day. We’ve been forgiven!
