Thanks to continued progress on the Tuscarawas County Health Department construction project, the building’s new accessible entrance is complete. Beginning Monday, Nov. 24, all visitors and patients to the TCHD office building at 897 E. Iron Ave. in Dover began using the new main entrance at the back of the building. Accessible parking is located near the rear entrance. TCHD will remain open as the construction project moves into the final phase at the front of the building.
“We are pleased with the progress of the construction project so far,” said Katie Seward, Tuscarawas County health commissioner. “The front lobby section of our building will not be open while the construction crew renovates that space. However, a safe path to the public health vending machine, located outside the front of our building, will still be available.”
The $2.1 million construction project began near the end of March. Under the direction of architect John Picard, the project includes an outside bypass drive, an accessible main entrance and bathrooms, heating and cooling system upgrades, building security enhancements and a 2,200-square-foot addition to the back of the building to add office and meeting spaces. The project is partially funded through a combination of federal, state and local sources, including ARPA funds, Federal Award CFDA 93.323 Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity for Infectious Diseases, and Federal Award CFDA 93.493 Congressional Directives.
“We are thankful to the community for their patience this year as the construction work has taken place,” Seward said. “We have achieved our goal of staying open to serve the public throughout the construction period, and we look forward to project completion in early 2026.”
