Tuscarawas County Fair auctions hit record $1.83M

Livestock, dairy and small animal sales show strong 4-H support.

Fair officials were pleased that the total of all three auctions – livestock sale, dairy sale and small animal sale – during the 2025 Tuscarawas County Fair set a new record total at $1,837,844.48.

“It's a huge showing of how this community supports the youth of our community,” Josh Rennicker, acting president of the agricultural society board, said. “It's just absolutely amazing that it can keep going up and up. And where does the support stop? I don't think it ever will. People want to support the kids.”

The following results were recorded in the livestock sale Thursday:

Steers: Grand Champion shown by Kate Liggett and purchased by Sarchione Chevrolet, $25 per pound. Reserve Champion & Grand Champion Bred & Fed shown by Cale Dinger and purchased by Kimble Company, $14 per pound. Reserve Champion Bred and Fed shown by Kynsleigh Billman and purchased by MRE Services Inc., $12 per pound.

There were 94 steers sold for a total of $718,156.

Lambs: Grand Champion shown by Jack Hart and purchased by Schaeffler for $40 per pound. Reserve Champion shown by Madisyn Brandt and purchased by Ryan Yoder Auctioneer, Realtor with Kiko & Kiko Auctioneers, Realtors & Advisors, $21 per pound.

There were 39 lambs shown for a total of $60,349.

Hogs: Grand Champion: shown by Lillian Sproul and purchased by Sarchione Chevrolet, $27 per pound. Reserve Champion: shown by Kayne Ellwood and purchased by Dover Phila Federal Credit Union, $23 per pound.

There were 292 hogs sold for a total of $794,495.48.

A quilt donated by Tina Jones of Tina's Custom Quilting & Embroidery sold for $1950 with the proceeds going to the newly formed Reb Billman Scholarship Fund. The quilt was then donated back to resell at the Dairy Product Sale.

Ohio State University football game tickets were sold for $700.00 with the proceeds going to the Fairgrounds Initiative Committee. The committee is seeking paver donations to complete the Tuscarawas Avenue entrance project. Pavers are $150 each with three lines of 20 spaces per line. 

The grand total of the large animal sale was a record $1,575,650.48. Previous year’s totals were: 2024 - $1,269,554.48, 2023 - $1,367,276.25, 2022 - $1,337,963, and 2021 - $1,260,286.

The results of the Dairy Product Sale were down from last year. The total 2025 sale earned $106,050. The total of the sale in 2024 was $123,300.

The donated quilt was sold again at the Dairy Sale with the proceeds going to the Reb Billman Scholarship fund. It was purchased by Tina Jones & Boys for $1,000 and donated back to be sold again at Saturday's Small Animal Sale.

The Saturday Small Animal Sale results recorded were:

Market Rabbits: Grand Champion shown by Raina Fair were purchased by L & O Livestock and Cory and Michelle Sproul for $950. Reserve Champion shown by Aria Valdinger were purchased by Slentz Heating & Cooling, Hamilton Insurance and Jerry & Sandra Valdinger for $2,750.

Market Broilers: Grand Champion shown by Ashtyn Scott was purchased by WTUZ for $2,500. Reserve Champion shown by McKenzie Jones was purchased by Case Farms & Schlabach Equipment Inc. for $1,100.

Market Goats: Grand Champion shown by Colton Miskimen was purchased by Caliber Mechanical Heating & Air for $20 per pound for a total of $1,640. Reserve Champion shown by Kortlynn Miller was purchased by HRN Construction for $18.50 per pound for a total of $1,443.

This quilt was sold and resold at all three sales to help fund the newly organized Reb Billman Scholarship Fund.

Market Turkey: Grand Champion shown by Gretchin Rolli was purchased by Central Excavation LLC for $1,100. Reserve Champion shown by Kylie Heldt was purchased by Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway Co. for $1,200.

Market Ducks: Grand Champion shown by Rory Chismar was purchased by Bliss Veterinarian Clinic for $2,500. Reserve Champion shown by Cadi Aul was purchased by Hursey Farms-Umbarger Dealer for $900.

The total of the small animal sale was $156,144. Previous sale totals were 2024 - $147,458,

2023 - $176,419, and 2022 - $147,965.

Tina Jones of Tuscarawas County Sale Committee thanked everyone who made the sales possible.

“Our 4-H community always comes out to support our 4-H kids and their projects,” Jones said.
