Tuscarawas County Health Department and Newcomerstown officials to unveil new mile markers, exercise signs and information center funded by grant.

The Tuscarawas County Health Department has partnered with the Village of Newcomerstown to host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at Simonds-Heller Park, 757 S. River St. The free event is open to the public and will celebrate recent enhancements made possible through the Creating Healthy Communities Grant.

“Upgrades to Simonds-Heller Park reflect a commitment between Newcomerstown leaders and TCHD to foster a healthier and more active community,” Alexis Wilson, Creating Healthy Communities coordinator, said in a release. “Improvements include mile markers, exercise signs, and an information center which were all designed to encourage outdoor activity and provide a welcoming space for residents of all ages. We are thankful for the support of the Newcomerstown community leaders to make this project possible.”

The celebration will feature opening remarks from local officials and community representatives, the ribbon-cutting, opportunities to explore the new park features, a giveaway of goody bags while supplies last, and light refreshments.

Organizers encourage families, friends and neighbors to attend and take part in recognizing the improvements and their positive impact on the community.
