Sue Ellwood, adult nurse practitioner at the Tuscarawas Clinic for the WorkingUninsured, will present “Tackling Your Next Office Visit” at the Dover Public Library Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 6:30 p.m. The program is designed to help patients get the most out of their next doctor’s appointment.
Ellwood has more than 25 years of experience in primary care.
“There is value in helping patients understand how to make the most of their office visits,” she said. “Patients often express fear that providers will not hear their concerns and try to tell us everything at once, because they know their time is limited.”
Ellwood said there are simple strategies that can help appointments feel more productive and satisfying. She will discuss how primary care providers typically move through a visit and how patients can prepare.
One of the most important steps, she noted, is knowing the reason for the appointment in advance — whether it is a routine checkup or a visit prompted by new or concerning symptoms. Understanding that difference, along with other planning strategies, can help patients communicate their needs more clearly and feel heard.
The event is free, but registration is requested. To reserve a seat, call the Dover Public Library at 330-343-6123.
