New Philadelphia High School to present fall play
‘It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play’
New Philadelphia High School will present its fall play, “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play,” a stage adaptation of the beloved 1946 Frank Capra film reimagined as a 1940s live radio broadcast.
Set in a New York radio studio on Christmas Eve, the story follows a group of actors and a foley artist as they bring to life the tale of George Bailey, a man whose dreams of adventure have been set aside by duty and circumstance. When George faces a moment of despair, an angel named Clarence shows him what the world would be like if he had never been born. Through this journey, George learns the true value of his life and the impact he has had on others.
Blending nostalgia, charm and inventive sound effects, the play celebrates community, kindness and the timeless message that every life touches many others.
The production will feature two casts performing over four shows. The first cast — Braylon Corbin, Maddox McClelland, Olivia Alexander, Anna Wherley, Colton Walker and Madelin Alexander — will perform Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 22 at 2:30 p.m. The second cast — Teagan Zimmerman, Maddox McClelland, Scarling Hershberger Budavich, Aria Clausen, Reece Shuman and Cheyenne Millard — will perform Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 22 at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $7 and can be purchased online at our.show/radioplay or at the door.
The production is directed by Christa Roberts, with Chad Roberts serving as assistant and technical director.
“It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play” is presented through special arrangement with Playscripts, a Concord Theatricals company.
