The Dover Public Library will celebrate National Library Card Sign-Up Month in September by recreating the famous “Read” posters that became a staple in libraries nationwide.
The posters will be displayed in the Community Room Art Gallery throughout the month and will feature library staff, trustees, Friends of the Library members and local celebrities.
Originally created by the American Library Association in 1980, the posters paired the word “Read” with celebrities, athletes and pop culture figures promoting literacy. The first poster featured Mickey Mouse, while later versions highlighted icons such as Yoda and David Bowie.
For more information on the campaign, or to be featured in a poster, contact the Dover Public Library at 525 N. Walnut St. The library can be reached at 330-343-6123 or online at doverlibrary.org.
