Dover Lunch and Learn to explore Guatemalan culture Sept. 18

YMCA youth and family director Jeff Bray will share insights on daily life, language and immigration during the program at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center.
Jeff Bray, youth and family director at the Tuscarawas County YMCA, will present An Overview of Life and Culture in Guatemala at 12:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center, 425 Prospect St., Dover.
Bray will discuss daily life in the regions many local immigrants come from, including the Mayan languages they speak. He will also explain reasons families leave their homeland, how they make their journey to the United States, and the importance of building trust with newcomers. Attendees will gain a better understanding of the county’s Guatemalan population.
Bray earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and criminology with a minor in sociology from The Ohio State University. He participated in The World Race, an 11-month trip around the globe, and has worked locally as a tutor for English learners, a liaison and a forensic interviewer for agencies including New Philadelphia Schools, Latino Cultural Connections and Noah’s Hope. He has traveled to 35 countries on five continents, including six visits to Guatemala.
