Dover library to host carbon capture talk
Environmental scientist Randi Pokladnik will present The Carbon Capture Boondoggle Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 6:30 p.m. at the Dover Public Library.
Pokladnik, a retired research chemist and educator, will discuss the risks and costs of capturing carbon dioxide from smokestacks and injecting it underground.
“This might sound like a good idea to help with climate change,” Pokladnik said. “But a closer examination shows that this process will not address our carbon dioxide emissions and is in fact very dangerous and very costly.”
A lifelong resident of the Ohio River Valley, Pokladnik holds master’s and doctorate degrees in environmental studies. She volunteers with several grassroots groups in the region, including Faith Communities Together for a Sustainable Future.
The free program will be held in the library’s community room at 525 N. Walnut St., Dover. Registration is available at doverlibrary.org/events or by calling 330-343-6123.
