Claymont’s wrestling team won six individual titles Feb. 11 at the Inter-Valley Conference tournament to secure the team championship.

The Mustangs totaled 231.5 points to outdistance runner-up Garaway, which scored 160. Indian Valley finished third with 121, followed by Sandy Valley with 81. Newcomerstown placed seventh with 55, and Tusky Valley finished eighth in the nine-team field with 13 points.

Claymont individual champions were Nash Edwards (113 pounds), Daniel McGarr (132), Drevonn Searcy (138), Luke Henry (144), Nile Abbuhl (150) and Kamden Stout (165).

Runners-up for the Mustangs were Lucas Toland (157), Quaid Shaw (175), Calvin Edwards (190) and Kendall Rennicker (215). Lukas Patterson (106) and Kole Wallace (120) each placed third, and Brady Cameron (285) finished fourth, as Claymont placed in all but one weight class.

For Indian Valley, Bronko Braun (126), Brock Albright (126) and Arian Braun (157) won individual titles. Owen Ayers (132), Brogan O’Connor (165), Cadyn Riggs (190) and Cruz Gardner (285) each placed third, and Garrin O’Connor (215) finished fourth.

Sandy Valley earned runner-up finishes from Asher Crissey (120), Michael Deal (126) and Owen Simpson (132). Aidan Douglas (113) and Jaysen Sonson (138) each placed third.

Newcomerstown had runner-up finishes from Chase Norman (106) and Calland Evans (285). Brycen Bourguin (144) and Marshall Ellis (175) placed third, and Antonio Ryan (138) finished fourth.

Sectional competition begins Feb. 27-28. Claymont will host a Division II sectional, while Indian Valley will compete in the Steubenville Division II sectional. Both feed into the Gallipolis District.

In Division III, Tusky Valley will compete in the Barnesville sectional. Newcomerstown and Sandy Valley will compete in Sandy Valley’s sectional. Qualifiers from both sites advance to the Coshocton District.

Outside the IVC, New Philadelphia will compete in Division I at the Euclid sectional, while Dover will compete in the Avon Lake sectional. New Philadelphia qualifiers advance to the North Canton Hoover District, and Dover qualifiers move on to the Perrysburg District.

The East District girls sectional will be held Sunday, March 1, at Claymont. Teams scheduled to compete include Claymont, New Philadelphia, Sandy Valley and Tusky Valley. Additional schools may enter individual competitors.
