Little Theatre of Tuscarawas County will hold auditions for “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” Sunday, Dec. 7, from 6-10 p.m., and Monday, Dec. 8, from 6-8 p.m. Only those asked will stay for dance auditions with choreographers Molly Weidig and Rachel Tassile Monday at 7:30 p.m. Callbacks, if needed, will be held Wednesday from 6-10 p.m.

Auditioners should prepare 36 bars of a song in the style of the show, such as Broadway or classic country. An accompanist will be available, but tracks are encouraged.

Artistic Director Bart Herman noted that the production contains adult language and themes. “This is an adult show with adult language and themes. It is being performed as written, with no cuts,” he said. He encouraged auditioners to research the Broadway production to be familiar with the script.

“We are casting ages 18 and up, with the possibility of casting a 17-year-old senior in high school with a permission form filled out by parents. That form would need to be turned in at the audition,” Herman said.

Roles include four male actors who do not sing or dance and an African American woman who can sing in the style of Aretha Franklin or Jennifer Hudson.

Herman, who has performed in the show four times including once on tour, said the musical remains meaningful to him. “It has been an important part of my career,” he said. “I feel it is a perfect example of a good story of acceptance and inclusion.”

Performances will run Friday, Feb. 27, through Sunday, March 15, with evening shows at 7:30 p.m. and matinees at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 330-308-6400 or online at the theater's website, TheLittleTheatreOnline.org. The production is sponsored by Levco Striping Services and the season’s Gold and Bronze sponsors, Mary and Roger Spies, the Dover Eagles 515 and Park Village Health Care.
