Age of Steam Roundhouse to christen steam locomotive No. 19 in April

The Age of Steam Roundhouse Museum will hold a three-day celebration to mark the grand christening of historic steam locomotive No. 19 April 9-11.

The event will include a public christening ceremony, train rides, roundhouse tours, an America 250–Ohio program titled “Ohio Goes to the Movies” and an after-hours photo shoot featuring the locomotive.

Day one: Thursday, April 9

No. 19 will travel to Sugarcreek for a public celebration and christening.

— Public viewing will be held from 5-7 p.m. in downtown Sugarcreek.

— The grand christening ceremony begins at 6 p.m. and will include remarks from the Sugarcreek mayor, Age of Steam Roundhouse Museum officials, Genesee & Wyoming representatives, Tuscarawas County officials and Glen Holland, who will share the history of No. 19.

— The locomotive will depart at 7 p.m. for the return trip to the Age of Steam Roundhouse Museum.

Day two: Friday, April 10

Guests may ride behind No. 19 on museum grounds and take guided tours of the roundhouse.

— Train rides will be offered at 10:50 a.m., 11:50 a.m., 12:50 p.m., 1:50 p.m., 2:50 p.m. and 3:50 p.m. Tickets are $6.

— Roundhouse tours will be offered at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Regular tour pricing applies.

— America 250–Ohio will present a free movie program titled “Ohio Goes to the Movies.” Additional details will be announced.

Day three: Saturday, April 11

The celebration continues with additional train rides, tours and a photo shoot.

— Train rides will be offered at 10:50 a.m., 11:50 a.m., 12:50 p.m., 1:50 p.m., 2:50 p.m. and 3:50 p.m.

— Roundhouse tours will be offered at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.

— An exclusive photo shoot will be held from 6-10 p.m. at the roundhouse. The museum said photographers will have premium access as No. 19 is staged in multiple scenes and locations. Tickets must be purchased in advance. No walk-up tickets will be available. Tickets are limited, and the photo shoot will be held rain or shine.
