Garaway boys cross country team earns state berth with top-three regional finish
Pirates place third at Division IV Pickerington Regional as football squad caps regular season with 14-0 win over Ridgewood

The Garaway boys cross country team advanced to the Division IV state tournament by finishing third at the Pickerington Regional on Oct. 25.
Nic Palmer finished sixth in 16:36.39 and Carter Travis seventh in 16:38.01 to lead the Pirates. Aaron Asbury placed 49th, Bryce Johnson 65th and Dominic Schlabach 82nd to round out the scoring.
Football
Garaway ended the regular season with a 14-0 win over Ridgewood in an Inter-Valley Conference clash on Oct. 24.
Matthew Frey rushed for 91 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries to lead the Pirates (8-2, 4-1), who qualified for the Div. VI postseason tournament and hosted Mineral Ridge in a Region 21 first-round game on Oct. 31.
Grady Miller completed 10-of-15 passes for 121 yards and an interception, adding 51 yards rushing on 20 carries. Trey Miller led the receivers with three catches for 62 yards while Micah Yoder caught four for 22.
Thomas Grimm paced the defense with two sacks and two tackles for loss. Wyatt Miller and Yoder added four tackles.
Garaway rolled to a 49-7 win over Sandy Valley in IVC play on Oct. 17.
Frey rushed for 79 yards and two touchdowns on four carries and returned a kickoff 88 yards for a score to pace the Pirates. Yoder caught touchdown passes of 69 and 34 yards from Grady Miller, who finished 4-of-4 passing for 126 yards and rushed for a 2-yard touchdown. Christian Raber tossed a 5-yard touchdown pass to Kaden Doane. Seth Schie rushed for 50 yards on six carries.
Easton Pope paced the defense with a sack and two tackles for loss while Colson Keller had a sack.
Girls cross country
Garaway’s Laynee Reneker and Rebecca Yoder competed at the Div. IV Pickerington Regional on Oct. 25.
Reneker placed 60th in 22:12.80 and Yoder 105th in 23:42.50.
