Garaway softball surges behind explosive offense
Sweep of Meadowbrook highlights unbeaten stretch
The Garaway softball team powered its way to a doubleheader sweep of Meadowbrook in nonleague play April 18, extending its winning streak to 13 games with 9-2 and 11-7 victories.
In game one, the Pirates collected 13 hits, led by Audrey Miller and True Tango. Miller hit two home runs, added a single and finished with four RBIs, while Tango showcased her speed with an inside-the-park home run to go with a triple and a single. Kayla Miller nearly hit for the cycle with a single, double and triple, Kyleigh LaCroix added a double, and Keaton Yoder delivered a key two-RBI single. Annabelle King earned the win in the circle, allowing just three hits.
Garaway continued its offensive surge in game two, outslugging Meadowbrook behind another big performance from Audrey Miller and Tango. Audrey Miller hit two more home runs and went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two singles. Tango also went 4-for-4, blasting a home run to go with a triple and two singles while driving in four runs. LaCroix added a home run, double and three RBIs, Jaylene Jimenez had a single and double, and Yoder drove in two runs with a double. Miller also earned her eighth win of the season in the circle.
Tango delivered a standout performance to lead Garaway to a 16-0 win over Malvern in a nonleague clash April 17.
The sophomore shortstop powered the offense with two home runs, adding a single and a double in a four-hit night while driving in four runs. King also had a strong game, collecting two singles and a double with two RBIs.
King earned her fourth win of the season in the circle, allowing just two hits while striking out seven.
Yoder and Klayah Glazer each recorded a single and a double, Nadia Pope added two singles, and LaCroix and Molly Miller each contributed a double.
Garaway used an early spark from Pope to roll to a 12-0 win over Hiland in an Inter-Valley Conference battle April 15.
Pope continued her hot streak, hitting a three-run home run in the first inning with two outs to set the tone. The blast marked her third home run in as many games.
Baseball
Garaway used a late offensive surge to pull away for a 12-9 win over Canton Central Catholic in nonleague play April 18.
The Pirates jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, then broke open a back-and-forth game with four runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to secure the victory. Garaway finished with 14 hits and five extra-base hits in the win.
Cooper Gintz led the offense, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, while Colson Keller had a big day at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Trey Miller added two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs, and Brody Hartzler also collected two hits and three RBIs. AJ Miller chipped in two hits and an RBI.
On the mound, Grady Miller worked 4 2/3 innings, allowing eight runs (seven earned) while striking out two. Kory Yoder earned the win in relief, giving up one run over 2 1/3 innings and helping shut the door late.
