Mayor James Clark reminded council at their March 11 meeting their 646 trailhead grant would not provide for restrooms, which was also discussed in a January meeting. But Clark said there was an opportunity to obtain $200,000 more in grant money.
He said the restroom for Scio’s part of the trail would cost $93,000 and the Jewett restroom would possibly be $227,000. He said the Jewett’s facility would be set up for flushing but Scio’s would be a vault-style restroom.
“But, with that $200,000, OMEGA is talking to Bo (Mayor Bailie) in Jewett if Jewett will go down to the vault-style and we’ll both get vault-style restrooms,” Clark said.
Clark said in that January meeting that the “dramatic makeover” for the trail would include a shelter, a bicycle repair station, picnic tables and bike parking spots, as well as other fixtures geared toward better aesthetics.
Also, Clark touched on restroom doors and said the estimate was between $570 to $1,000 per door. He said that would include a magnetic lock with automatic locking and unlocking with a dusk to dawn time table. The approximate price for both doors would not exceed $1,700 and council gave him the green light to seek out prices for separate parts.
Regarding obtaining the final two easements for the Hilltop Drive sanitary project, Income Tax Administrator Janeen Scott said one was never received and wasn’t sure about the second resident since she hadn’t spoken with them in a while but it was established that there were still two residents’ signed easements needed. Scott said she did give the residents the paperwork but they still have not been returned. She said one resident lives out of town but within the state and will reach out again and find out the status of those easements.
And finally, village clean up day was agreed upon for June 13 from 9 a.m. to noon.
