Huskies junior high goes 2-1
Varsity competes at Ron Mauck OVAC tournament
The Harrison Central Junior High wrestling team traveled to Harding Jan. 15 to face Bridgeport, the Harding Black Team and the Harding Red Team.
Harrison Central defeated Bridgeport 52-3 and Harding Red 50-6. Harding Black ended the Huskies’ winning streak with a 39-29 win.
Corbyn Coen, Nelson Lan and Bentley Manbeck went 3-0 on the day.
The Harrison Central varsity wrestling team competed at the 72nd Ron Mauck OVAC Tournament at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The team has dealt with injuries this season, including Knox McKibben (215) out with a second injury and Aiden Hensley (120) out for the season.
Andrew Cox (144) won his first-round match, defeating Weston Owen of John Marshall, then lost by fall to Matthew Tomaino of Beaver Local. Cox returned to beat Dylan Belt of Morgantown by fall in 1:57, then pinned Hunter Strawn of River in 2:59 before losing to Nolan Haught of Edison by technical fall.
Jaden Harris (190) received a first-round bye, then lost by fall to Austin Armstrong of Barnesville. Harris then defeated Mason Lamp of Oak Glen by 10-0 major decision before losing to Christian Briggs of Toronto.
Cameron Fulton (132) lost by fall to Landon Burdine of Brooke, received a bye in the consolation round, then lost to Kohen Holmes of St. Clairsville.
Jakob Kreptowski (126) was pinned in the first round by Brody Smith of Cameron, then lost 6-4 to Ashland Alexander of Indian Creek.
Brennan Engstrom (150) lost by fall to Kaden Danver of East Liverpool, then defeated Gavin Viad-Douglas of Marietta by major decision, 12-4. Engstrom then lost to Sam Bossart of Linsly.
The Huskies return to the mat Jan. 21 against Claymont. Senior wrestlers will be honored at the event.
