Harrison Central track teams open season strong at Claymont, OBX meets

Both the boys and girls teams turned in solid early-season performances across the two events

The Harrison Central track and field teams opened the 2026 season in strong fashion, competing at the Claymont Invitational March 28 and traveling to Manteo, North Carolina, for the OBX meet March 31.

Both the boys and girls teams turned in solid early-season performances across the two events.

At the Claymont Invitational, the boys team was led by Jacob Quito, who won both the 100-meter dash (11.60) and 200-meter dash (23.00). Triston Cole placed second in the 400-meter dash (55.12), and Noah Thaxton won the 1,600-meter run in 5:00.85 while also placing fourth in the 800-meter run (2:21.74).

In the hurdles, Chad McAfee placed third in the 300-meter hurdles (55.49), followed by Cameron Fulton in fourth (58.73).

Harrison Central’s relay teams also had strong finishes. The 4x200-meter relay team of Beau Rinkes, Brady Hyre, Cole and Quito placed first (1:33.79), while the 4x400-meter relay team of Cooper Thompson, Parker McAfee, Hunter Fulton and Jaden Harris finished second (3:59.39). The 4x100-meter relay team also placed fourth.

In field events, Brady Hyre won the high jump (5-6), while Trenton Allison captured first in the pole vault (11-0). Dylan Walters placed second in the shot put (46-3.5), and Nate Dulkoski was runner-up in the discus (166-4).

For the girls at Claymont, Teagan Parks led the way with a third-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (19.22) and a win in the pole vault (7-6). Lillianne Smith placed fourth in the discus (92-4).

At the OBX meet, the boys team continued its strong showing. Triston Cole won the 400-meter dash (53.67), and Noah Thaxton placed second in the 1,600-meter run (4:56.72).

Beau Rinkes captured first in the 110-meter hurdles (15.14), and Harrison Central swept the relays, winning the 4x200-meter relay (1:36.26), 4x400-meter relay (3:58.08) and 4x800-meter relay (9:53.65).

Hyre added another win in the high jump (5-6), while Dylan Walters took first in the shot put (45-6).

For the girls at OBX, Teagan Parks won the 100-meter hurdles (18.42) and placed second in the pole vault. The 4x800-meter relay team also captured first place (13:38.64).

Lillianne Smith highlighted the field events with a first-place finish in the discus (106-6) and a second-place finish in the shot put (27-9). Peyton Visser added a third-place finish in the shot put.

With strong performances across both meets, Harrison Central’s track teams appear poised for a successful season.
