It’s not just a simple music and speakers DJ service. Chelsea Matta Householder, known as DJ Chelsea, has been providing DJ services for 18 years, starting when still in school, and offers all the fun you can assemble for your next party. From simple beginnings, she now boasts a full calendar of events and all the equipment needed for any special event.

Her successful business started with a small nudge from her dad. “I’ve always been a crazy music fan,” said Householder. “Since I was probably about 2 years old, I’ve loved music. My dad suggested the idea to me when I was 17, because I loved music so much, that I start a little DJ business. He actually bought me my first small sound system when I was still in high school. He suggested I start doing some small parties for friends in the area and see where it goes. I’m still here and still doing music for events. It just took a little push and it has worked out really well.”

It was slow going at first, Householder said, and took time to build. “At the beginning, I was lucky to get a job here and there, maybe one every couple of moths. It took awhile, with social media and word of mouth to gain experience and get where I am today. Without my dad’s suggestion, I don’t think I would ever have thought to try it.”

With her family still solidly supporting her efforts, she now covers a wide area, providing music for events in Pittsburgh, Carrollton, Steubenville and Columbus. “I pretty much travel throughout the region and cover a pretty wide area,” she said.

DJ Chelsea now offers a range of special extras, including special lighting, a complete uplighting system, Karaoke, a projection screen, and a photo booth. A wedding couple’s first dance gets a dancing on the cloud effect to make it extra special. She provides music for any kind of party one might have planned and is also a singer in her own right.

The photo booth is a more recent addition to her offerings. “We provide an open photo booth with props and customization,” Householder said. “Once you get your picture taken you get a print to take home that day.”

Householder said she especially enjoys providing music for weddings and children’s school events and while she offers just about any kind of music, she has a special place in her heart for country. “I’m a sucker for old classic country. Even growing up, I’ve always been a huge fan of country music.”

The new year is shaping up to be quite a busy one for Householder. “This year is already pretty solidly booked. I have maybe five or six Saturdays open in 2026. It’s looking pretty good.” She said working weekend evenings is the only slight downside to her successful job. “Most people plan events on the weekend, so that’s the only small bummer. But once this began to grow and be successful, I became committed to providing music when I’m needed.”
