Bulls and Spartans triumph in Scio games
Harrison Central Youth Basketball League sees competitive matchups in Week 2 at Barr Memorial Gym.
The Harrison Central Youth Basketball League entered its second week of competition Saturday, Jan. 31, at Barr Memorial Gym in Scio. Parents and guests attended the day’s games.
In the fifth- and sixth-grade game, the Bulls defeated the Warriors 20-17. Paxton Smith led the Bulls with 17 points and sealed the win with three late free throws. Jace Bumgardner and Logan Myher led the Warriors with five points each.
In another fifth- and sixth-grade game, the Spartans defeated the Vikings 29-25. Vontae Robinson scored 13 points in the first quarter and finished with 23. Kamden VanCuren led the Vikings with 21 points.
In third- and fourth-grade play, the Cavs defeated the Vikings 26-2. Layne Harris led the Cavs with 18 points. Connor Helms scored the Vikings’ two points.
The Tar Heels defeated the Huskies 20-2. Harper Dunlap led the Tar Heels with 16 points and seven steals. William Sullivan scored two points for the Huskies.
Standings through Week 2 in the fifth- and sixth-grade league: Spartans 1-0, Hornets 1-0, Vikings 1-1, Bulls 1-1, Warriors 0-2.
Standings through Week 2 in the third- and fourth-grade league: Tar Heels 2-0, Knights 1-0, Cavs 1-1, Huskies 0-1, Vikings 0-2.
“The progress of the kids in just two short weeks is very visible,” league President Steve Coffman said. “Also noticeable is how the kids have come together with their new teammates.”
The Knights had a bye in Week 2.
