River View FFA excels in state contests

Coshocton County students earn top spots in agriculture and food science competitions.

The 2025 River View FFA state food science team included Brylie Wine, Adalynn Endsley, Parker Cunningham and Nathan Adams.

The River View FFA competed in the Ohio FFA Impact of Ag Career Development Event Dec. 4. The team consisted of eighth grade members Zachary Richards, Kenzie Roach, Camden Shrimplin and Rylynn Wine.

This CDE required the team to research the importance of agriculture in Coshocton County. They were required to write and submit a research paper on the topic to qualify for the semi-finals. Next, they developed a presentation on their topic and worked as a team to present their topic to a panel of judges.

These members competed against 17 other teams in the semi-finals and qualified in the top four to present at the finals round. The team did an outstanding job and earned third place overall in this state-level event.

On Jan. 8 Nathan Adams, Brylie Wine, Parker Cunningham and Adalynn Endsley traveled to Meadowbrook High School to compete in the district food science and technology CDE. The competition consisted of a team portion where members worked together to complete a product development scenario and an individual practicum to test their knowledge on skills such as triangle tests, aromas, and food safety and sanitation. The team placed second in the district event and advanced to the state competition.

On Jan. 31 the food science CDE team traveled to Ohio State University in Columbus to compete in the state event. Members again applied their knowledge and skill in the different practicum events and team product development. The team placed 15th out of 29 teams in the finals with Nathan Adams placing 29th individual out of 1,092 total food science contestants.
