Walsh University will welcome the campus and local community to an evening of faith and resilience Wednesday, Sept. 3, as part of its Education for Life Colloquium Series. Genelle Guzman-McMillan, the last person rescued from the wreckage of the World Trade Center Sept. 11, 2001, will share her story at the Barrette Business and Community Center beginning at 6:30 p.m.
During the attacks, Guzman-McMillan was working in the North Tower when it collapsed. She survived 27 hours trapped beneath the rubble, becoming the final person pulled alive from the ruins. In that time, she experienced a profound spiritual awakening that led her to rediscover faith, hope and a renewed sense of purpose. Though not religious before the collapse, she began praying and credits her survival to faith and the strangers who helped save her.
Her visit comes days before the 24th anniversary of 9/11, offering a personal connection to the events and a reminder of the importance of resilience, remembrance and moral reflection.
A book signing and reception will follow at approximately 7:45 p.m., with limited copies of her memoir, "Angel in the Rubble," available for purchase.
The free event is supported by Christ the King Apostolic Church; Christ the Servant and Little Flower Catholic parishes; and the Wilkof and Nolan families. The Education for Life Colloquium Series is dedicated to fostering conversations around values such as faith, excellence, integrity, service and community.
