At the Aug. 12 meeting of the Leesville Village Council, it was agreed to waive any late fees for sewer utility customers for the months of July and August.

Because of the change of fiscal officers at the end of July, utility bills were sent approximately one week later than usual. Mayor Mara Malterer told council that she felt waiving the late fees would be the best way to handle this issue.

Council briefly discussed and unanimously passed Resolution 2025-5 to make the forgiveness of late fees for July and August official.

In other discussion, Malterer reported that she had a conversation with Smitty’s Tree Service regarding a sidewalk that was supposed to be lifted and replaced. Malterer said that Smitty’s is willing to reduce the cost of services or help pay for the replacement.

Council discussed and agreed they are happy with the work that Smitty’s has done for the village. Council will look into the cost of replacement, and Councilman John Traxler and employee Rich Albright will perform the work.

In other action, council:

— Learned that the last date to order veteran’s banners is Aug. 27.

— Was updated on the status of the proposed trail through the village.

— Learned that a picnic table had been donated to the village park.

— Discussed the status of putting up the new street signs and ordering additional stop signs.

— Heard receipts reported at $5,856.23 and approved expenses totaling $6,606.99.

— Agreed to contact the state auditor’s office and have an official audit performed.

— Approved a mileage reimbursement of up to $100 for Fiscal Officer Kaley Knapp to attend training in Athens, Ohio.

The next meeting of the Leesville Village Council will be held Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m. in the Village Hall.
