At the Jan. 13 meeting of the Leesville Village Council, two new members were sworn in.

Residents Mikah Sullivan and Heather Enos ran in the November 2025 general election and won. Mayor Mara Malterer administered the oath of office to Sullivan and Enos. Their terms expire Dec. 31, 2029.

During the mayor’s report, Malterer thanked Councilman John Traxler for snowplowing streets and alleys during and after a recent snowstorm. Traxler performed the work as a courtesy to the village.

Malterer also reported on a recent Transportation Alternatives Program meeting she attended and said the committee is awaiting an announcement of the award winners.

Malterer said OMEGA’s Ben Turin is assisting with the Ohio Department of Transportation purchase order application for the next round of submissions and that the committee hopes the villages of Bowerston and Sherrodsville will join efforts to secure a trail linking all three villages.

Malterer also reported that all the veterans banners have been cleaned and stored for the winter. The deadline for the next banner purchase is April 1.

Utility Operator Jerry Bowser attended the meeting and told council an issue with the sewer system on Green Street has been repaired. Bowser said he is working on the annual sludge report submission for the Environmental Protection Agency.

Other action included the following:

— Heard a street committee report from Councilman Bruce Palmer and learned there are three streetlights out in the village that have been reported to AEP.

— Passed Resolution 2025-15 approving supplemental appropriations to cover payments to council for the special budget meeting in December.

— Heard receipts reported at $17,578.24 and was told $10,000 of the total was for the village volunteer fire department.

— Approved expenses totaling $10,151.93 and learned there are several unpaid bills.

— Appointed Haley White as council president for 2026 and set committees for the year.

— Set the regular meeting day and time for 2026 as the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m.

— Adopted the Ohio Revised Code as the governing legislation for the village for 2026.

The next regular meeting of the Leesville Village Council will be Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 7 p.m. at the Village Hall.
