Friendship Center’s weekly programs promote health and connection for seniors

Center offers fitness classes, games, clubs and social activities to support wellness and community for older adults

The Friendship Center, located at 100 Kensington Road in Carrollton, invites area seniors to stay active, social and engaged through a full schedule of wellness and recreational programs designed to support healthy living and community connection.

Each week, participants can enjoy drumming sessions Mondays at 12:30 p.m., a rhythmic workout that improves coordination and stimulates the mind. Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:30 a.m., certified instructors lead GeriFit, a sit-to-stand exercise class that helps build strength, balance and endurance at a comfortable pace. Wednesdays from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. feature line dancing, a fun, low-impact activity that combines music, movement and laughter.

Beyond exercise, the Friendship Center offers a wide range of opportunities for socialization and mental wellness. Members can join in Wii bowling, euchre, bridge, board games, the Sewing and Quilters Guild, Coffee Time, TV Club, Knitting Club, Supper Club and Senior Music Night. To help brighten the winter months, the center also hosts Winter Blues Cards daily from 1-3 p.m.

Friendship Center Director Tonya Myers shared her gratitude for the community’s continued support and participation. “We are thankful and blessed to be able to offer services for our seniors that allow them to stay in their homes healthier, longer and safer,” Myers said. “We offer ‘more than a meal’... but a daily smile and wellness check. As Maya Angelou said, ‘People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.’ We hope that time spent with our staff lets you know you are loved.”
