Carrollton Village Council
Carrollton reminds residents of sidewalk rules, snow parking ban
Owners or operators are subject to a minor misdemeanor citation
With cold and snowy weather arriving, Carrollton village officials are reminding residents of the ordinance requiring homeowners and occupants to keep sidewalks in repair and clear of snow, ice or other nuisances. Violations of this section of the General Offenses Code are classified as a minor misdemeanor.
Motorists are also reminded of the village’s snow emergency parking ban. Under an ordinance approved Aug. 8, 2022, by Carrollton Village Council, an emergency is declared when snow accumulation of four inches or more exists on village streets. The measure is intended to help maintain safe traffic flow and address hazards caused by heavy snow and ice.
During such an emergency, it is unlawful to park or leave a vehicle standing on either side of the following streets or portions of streets when four inches or more of snow has accumulated: Meadow Brook Lane, Wedgewood Lane, McKinley Avenue (dead end), Lincoln Avenue from Second Street NW to Fifth Street NW, Second Street NW, Second Street SW, Fourth Street SE, Industrial Drive, Best Allotment, all of Guess Allotment, Windamere Drive and any other streets designated by the village administrator during major or excessive snow events.
Vehicles found parked on these streets during a snow emergency may be removed on the order of any appointed officer of the Carrollton Police Department. Owners or operators are subject to a minor misdemeanor citation.
The penalty for a minor misdemeanor carries no jail time and a maximum fine of $150, according to Village Administrator Mark Wells.
