Some days you’re the dog and some days, you’re the chew toy. On Aug. 13, the Carrollton boys’ golf crew were, unfortunately, on the receiving end, despite posting their best nine-hole score of the season against Beaver Local at Turkana Golf Course.

The Warriors fell short by five strokes, 161-156, with Nathan Sutton pacing Carrollton with a 36, his lowest round of the season thus far.

Not to be outdone, Michael Mullen also delivered his best round of the season with a 38. Colten Rummell may not have posted a personal best score, but coach Chris Barto noted that it was a great round nonetheless.

Carrollton’s fortunes improved two days later when the Warriors faced Salem at Salem Hills Golf and Country Club. It was another touch and go match, but Carrollton came out on top this time, 184-189.

Sutton was again the low man, carding a 41, while Mullen shot a 45 for Carrollton and Parker Roudebush posted a score of 48. Combined with a late July victory over the Quakers, the Warriors picked up a sweep of their Eastern Buckeye Conference rival.

The Lady Warriors are firing on all cylinders after starting their 2025 campaign with two consecutive victories. The proceeding got underway Aug. 16 when Carrollton welcomed Canton Central Catholic for a nonconference match.

Despite two very close opening sets, the Lady Warriors hung on for a sweep, winning 27-25, 25-23, 25-19. As the offense flows through her, it is fitting that senior setter Emma Shafer led the team in assists with nine.

Outside hitter Ivy Bishop earned top server honors scoring seven points while delivering four aces for Carrollton. Middle Haley Leslie added six kills while Juliaunna Miller contributed eight digs.

Two days later, the Lady Warriors visited Steubenville and again did not drop a set, defeating the Big Red 25-14, 25-19, 25-23. Shafer had an extremely busy – and productive — match as she accumulated 15 assists while also leading the defensive charge with 13 digs.

This time around, Miller was Carrollton’s top server with 11 points and 3 aces. Outside hitter Haley Thomas led the Warriors with 11 kills while Leslie added five total blocks, three of them solo and two assists.

If these two contest can serve as a reliable measuring stick, Carrollton’s pipeline of future talent looks to be strong as not only are the Lady Warriors 2-0 at the varsity level, but both the JV squad and the ninth grade team are undefeated.
