Carroll County retired teachers hear quilt program, plan October meeting
The Carroll County Retired Teachers Association met Aug. 15 at Carrollton Bible Chapel. Following a welcome by President Rose Seck and introductions of members, lunch was served.
During the business meeting, Joyce Ferguson gave the treasurer’s report and thanked members Tom and Janet Postlethwait for their generous donation to the association. Seck reported on the successful Warrior Back to School Bash held Aug. 11, which members had supported. More than 300 students attended and enjoyed activities and giveaways. Committee reports were given by Darlene Smith, Rosemary Dennis and Marlyn Warner.
The program, “Quilts: Scraps to Family Treasures,” was presented by Diane McElwain, a retired STEM teacher, retired NASA educational liaison and certified quilt instructor. She displayed eight quilts she had pieced, showcasing the combination of creativity and technical skill she used in her work.
The next meeting will be Oct. 24 at Carrollton Bible Chapel. The program will feature ORTA Northeast Ohio Regional Representative June Logan, as well as school board candidates who will be on the November ballot. All active and retired teachers from any school system are welcome and encouraged to attend.
