The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office reports a body was found near train tracks Oct. 1.
The Carroll County 911 Center received a call at 3:22 p.m. from Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway officials reporting a body lying in a water-filled ditch along the railroad tracks.
Deputies responded to the location about 300 feet north of the crossing gates at state Route 171, also known as Waynesburg Road. Authorities said the deceased male was not struck by a train.
The man’s name is being withheld pending notification of family. At the direction of Carroll County Coroner Dr. Mandal Haas, the body was transported to Cuyahoga County for an autopsy.
Officials emphasized that the man was not hit by the train.
