Tuscarawas County Probate Court marks National Adoption Day
Court and Job and Family Services celebrate local adoption as officials highlight need for foster and adoptive families in the county
The Tuscarawas County Probate Court, in partnership with the Tuscarawas County Department of Job and Family Services, celebrated National Adoption Day Nov. 21. Judge Adam W. Wilgus presided over a public adoption hearing in which one minor child in foster care was adopted.
About 100 children are currently in foster care in Tuscarawas County, supported by 32 licensed family foster homes.
“Numerous children each year find themselves in circumstances they did not create and are left searching for an adoptive family,” Wilgus said. “Those children deserve stability, safety and love.”
Nationwide, more than 100,000 children in foster care are waiting to be adopted.
