A goal has been achieved for a young barber in his mid 20s in the form of a new barbershop in the community of Tuscarawas. Jase Green, a graduate of Indian Valley High School, knew what he wanted to do for a career since middle school.
"I got started back when I was in eighth grade,” Green said of the time when he started to care about how his hair looked. “I went to the bathroom one day; my parents were gone and got the clippers out and just gave it a shot. And honestly, it worked out well.”
His family was impressed and soon Jase Green was cutting his father’s hair and that of other family members.
Green has now been a professional barber for the past four years. He graduated from Akron Barber College in January 2022 and got his license in February of the same year.
“I’ve been full time ever since,” Green said.
He worked in other shops, but when the opportunity came up to start his own business, Green jumped right in. He started The Main Ave Barbershop located at 111 N. Main Ave. in the village of Tuscarawas.

"This place has got some history. It's been a barbershop since the early 1900s is what I heard,” Green said. “It just sat empty for the past couple years. And one of my friends bought the building and asked if I wanted to reopen a shop down here."
Green renovated the area but features of the previous barbershop remain.
"I wanted to keep the old school feel and just freshen it up. That was my goal to definitely modernize and put my touch on it,” Green said.
The shop contains two new barbershop chairs. There is new flooring, new paint on the walls, and fresh ceilings. The shop still has the original cabinets, mirrors and layout.

Though he’s just getting started, having opened in December 2025, Green is looking forward to seeing how he can help the community.
"It's good to open up a business here and kind of be involved in the community again. And be able to give back in my own way,” Green said. "This first year is just getting established in the community and getting the shop name out there. My goal was always to one day own my own barbershop and that's been the most rewarding thing.”
Another reason he wanted to open in Tuscarawas is that there are no other true barbershops that he knows of in the Indian Valley School District area. Once the business gets established, Green hopes to add another barber at the shop.
Green enjoys meeting people.
“One of my favorite things about what I do is that you never know who's going to sit in your chair. It's people from all different walks of life and I get 35 minutes to pick someone's brain,” Green said.
The shop takes walk-ins but it’s best to have an appointment. A link to book an appointment using the Booksy app can be found on the shop’s Facebook page or call 740-229-9867 or stop by the shop to book an appointment. The shop is open Monday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The new barbershop has been well-received by the community and the response has been positive.
"I honestly have been kind of just overwhelmed with all the support I've gotten,” Green said. “I've been feeling blessed ever since I opened here."
